Peru’s capital is a fantastic city to tour, dotted with a multitude of cultural sites and beautifully preserved architecture. Founded by the conquistador Francisco Pizarro in 1535, Lima was first named ‘City of Kings’ – a biblical reference to the ‘Three Wise Men of the East’ – before its name was changed by the Spanish colonialists. The most significant historical buildings are located around the Plaza Mayor, the most notable being the Government Palace, where one can still observe the changing of the guard performed by the Húsares de Junín. The beautiful Cathedral and the various small palaces and colonial balconies also play also their part in the beauty of the city. Another highlight is the famed Larco Herrera Museum, documenting the millennial cultures that preceded the Inca civilization and containing a priceless collection of pre-Columbian artifacts, including some of South America's finest pre-Inca erotic pottery.

Located more than 6000 feet above sea level in Peru's mountain peaks, Machu Picchu is one of the world's most impressive archaeological sites. This legendary lofty city was abandoned by the Inca Empire, reclaimed by the jungle and lost to humanity until its rediscovery in 1911. Built by the Incas on the summit of "Machu Picchu" (Old Peak), in the middle of a tropical montane forest overlooking the canyon of the Urubamba, the 'Lost City of Machu Picchu' is a site of extraordinary beauty and enormous archaeological significance. The complex reflects the Inca Empire at its height, with giant walls, terraces and ramps that appear to have been cut naturally in the continuous rock escarpments. The phenomenal technological skills of the Incan engineers can be seen in multiple facets of the site: the exacting precision of the massive stone buildings, the water channels that reveal a deep understanding of hydraulics, and Intihuatana, a carved ritual stone known as the "hitching post of the Sun", which served as a solar calendar that regulated planting and harvesting.
Sacred Valley - Inca Trail Piscakucho
We start the Inca Trail at Km 82 of the Machu Pichu railroad. After getting acquainted with our crew we set out, crossing a footbridge to hike a gentle two hours down the Urubamba Canyon, and then visit imposing, sculpted Inca farming terraces and the settlement of Llaqtapata on the banks of the Cusicacha side river. We then climb a short way up the Cusichaca valley to Huayllabamba, the last inhabited village on the trail, where we camp. Overnight Camping (B,L,D)

The Campsites are assigned randomly by the government authorities of the Inca Trail. Q'inti's Camp Site consists of double occupancy tents, a chemical toilet in a toilet tent, and a dining tent. The tents are either REI or Northface tents. They are equipped with a thermarest mattress for isolation from the cold, a sleeping bag from Northface or REI, a sleeping bag liner and a small light . In the morning our staff will wake you up with a bowl of warm water and a washcloth.

Huayllabamba/Pacaymayo
The trail climbs gently through the mountains through the last houses of Huayllabamba, and then through Polylepis woodland, puna or treeless grassland of the High Andes. In the afternoon we start our steady ascent towards the highest pass, which is called Abra Warmiwañusca or “Dead Woman’s Pass”, at 13,850 ft. (4,211 m). We then descend through the forested Pacaymayo Valley towards our eponymous camp at 11,900 ft. (3,620 m), where our staff will receive us with a tasty dinner and warm tea. This morning we ascend towards the second-highest pass of the trip (13,113 ft.), visit Sayacmarca, Aobamba Valley and through bromeliads and orchids to our campsite near a rock pinnacle topped with Inca viewing platforms, which overlook the archaeological site known as Phuyupatamarca (“Town of the Clouds”) which offers fantastic sunrise views of the snow-capped peak named Salcantay, the Vilcabamba Mountain Range, and a stunning view down the valley towards the steamy heat of the Amazon rainforest.

Perched high up in the Andes, Machu Picchu Pueblo is a riverside town known for its proximity to the famous Machu Picchu sanctuary.
